Batteries

Every Valor gas fireplace comes equipped with batteries in the remote and receiver.

Home > Fireplace Resources > Changing the Batteries

Did you know that every Valor gas fireplace uses batteries in the remote and receiver? Our fireplaces do not rely on main power, which means that the batteries in your fireplace and remote allow it to continue to be used during power outages or severe storms.

With that in mind, it is important to remember to replace the batteries once per year, or when indicated, to ensure optimal performance.

For an overview of changing out batteries in your fireplace, receiver, or wall switch please read through the sections below.

Changing The Batteries

Consider changing out your batteries at least once per year.

Valor 10 Remote Control

VALOR 10 REMOTE

Your remote display indicates when the battery is low.

The Valor 10 remote uses a 2 AAA alkaline batteries—Duracell or Energizer. The batteries should last one to two cold seasons, depending on usage. Remove the battery in the warmer months to extend battery life.

Valor Plus and Max Remotes

VALOR PLUS & MAX REMOTES

Your remote display indicates when the battery is low.

The Valor Plus and Max remotes use a 9V alkaline battery—Duracell or Energizer. The battery should last one to two cold seasons, depending on usage. Remove the battery in the warmer months to extend battery life.

Remote Battery and Wall Switch

REMOTE BATTERY & WALL SWITCH

If you have a Remote Battery and Wall Switch (RBWSK), your receiver batteries are conveniently located next to the wall switch. Follow these steps to change out the batteries:

  • Pull off the FIREPLACE BATTERY ACCESS plate next to the wall switch. The plate is attached with magnets.
  • Do not pull the connector by the wire.
  • Replace the batteries with 4 AA alkaline batteries (Duracell or Energizer) orienting them as indicated inside the holder.
  • Put the battery holder and cover back in place.

FIREPLACE RECEIVER

Before you change the batteries, turn the fireplace and pilot off and let it cool. When your receiver makes three seconds of rapid-fire beeping sound, it's time to replace your receiver batteries.

  • Locate the battery holder under or beside the firebox, near the controls.
  • Replace the batteries with 4 AA alkaline (Duracell or Energizer) batteries.
  • Return holder to original location.
  • Reinstall any remaining parts removed.

Troubleshooting

Still experiencing issues? Try the tips below or contact your local Valor today for support.

Why isn't my Valor remote control working?

Answer:

  1. Change the batteries in your remote control. The battery usage icon on your remote control screen will tell you if the batteries are low or dead.
  2. Switch to Duracell or Energizer alkaline batteries. They work best with our remote control systems.
  3. Replace the remote's receiver batteries located in your fireplace or in your remote battery and wall switch. Both your remote and your remote's receiver require batteries.
What to do if your Valor fireplace won’t turn on?

Answer: Ensure you are operating the remote or wall switch in the proper manner. If you continue to experience issues with lighting the pilot and turning on the fireplace, this can often be the result of low batteries not in the remote handset, but the 4x AA batteries, inside of the fireplace receiver box. Beyond battery replacement further troubleshooting will need to be conducted by a qualified service technician.

Why does my Valor fireplace makes a series of beeps when I try to light it?

Answer: The series of quick beeps is an indication that the batteries within the unit are critically low. This does not refer to the 9v battery in the remote control but rather the 4 AA batteries inside of all of our current fireplaces. Refer to your fireplace manual for more information related to replacing batteries.
