Valor Fireplace Safety

Warmth and Safety Belong Together

There is nothing like a warm fireplace to bring family and friends together. With this in mind, the dedicated professionals who design, manufacture and install Valor Gas Fireplaces are united in their commitment to safety.

Valor Barrier Screens - Included with Purchase

Valor Family Safety

In compliance with newly developed industry safety standards, all certified gas fireplaces manufactured after January 1, 2015 will include safety screens or protective barriers to reduce the potential for accidental contact with the hot glass window surfaces.

All Valor Gas Fireplaces have been factory equipped with protective screens since January, 2013 – complying with the new CSA standard, a full two years in advance of the pending mandatory requirements.

Fireplace surfaces, in particular the glass viewing window, are extremely hot during operation and will remain hot for a period of time after the fireplace is turned off. Contact with the hot glass can cause severe burns. Close adult supervision is required if there are young children, or at-risk individuals in the house.

Included with your purchase, a Valor Barrier Screen is recommended at all times. Install an approved aftermarket safety gate to keep toddlers, young children and at-risk individuals a safe distance from the fireplace.

Fireplace Maintenance

With any fuel burning fireplace or space heating device, safe operation depends on your product knowledge and awareness of safe operating practices. Special precautions are necessary when small children are present.

In support of the Hearth Patio & Barbecue Association’s consumer awareness campaign - www.safefireplacetips.com - we are providing this Safety Checklist to all Valor fireplace owners. Please take the time to review all safety procedures with your family and guests.

Maintain Your Fireplace

Your owner’s manual includes instructions on routine maintenance such as glass cleaning and replacement of batteries in your remote receiver and handset. Scheduling a regular maintenance check with your dealer helps to ensure safe and efficient use as well as maximizing the service life of your fireplace.

Read Your Owners Manual and Follow All Instructions and Warnings

Ensure that all fireplace users are aware of all features of the control system. Replacement manuals may be ordered through your dealer, or by visiting the Download Library. Your fireplace model number is located on the manufacturer’s plate near the control valve.

Home Safety Tips

Fireplace Surfaces, in particular the glass viewing window, are extremely hot during operation (over 500°F at full capacity) and will remain hot for a period of time after the fireplace is turned off. Contact with the hot glass can cause severe burns. Close adult supervision is required if there are young children, or at-risk individuals in the house. A physical barrier is strongly recommended. Install an approved aftermarket safety gate to keep toddlers, young children and at-risk individuals a safe distance from the fireplace.

Valor Fireplace Screen Accessories

If your Valor fireplace is not equipped with a fire screen or screen door, a suitable accessory screen may be ordered through your local Valor dealer. To find a Valor dealer please visit valorfireplaces.com/contact.

Maintain a Safe Clearance From Hot Surfaces

Keep furniture, draperies and other objects at least 36" clear from the front of the fireplace. Never sit directly adjacent to the hot glass, or allow clothing or other material to come in contact with fireplace surfaces.

Keep the Remote Control Handset out of Reach of Children at all Times

A wall mount storage holster was included with your remote control package. Removing the battery from the handset or receiver will disable your remote.

Glass Will Remain Hot

The glass on your fireplace will remain hot after the unit has been turned off for approximately 30 to 60 minutes.

Shut Off Fireplace

Ensure that your fireplace is completely shut off and the unit has safely cooled before performing general maintenance.

Scheduling routine maintenance

Scheduling routine maintenance checks with a local Valor dealer helps to ensure safe, effective use of your fireplace. This practice will also help increase the expected service life of your fireplace.

Reliable & Efficient Heat

Overheating Empty Rooms Just Doesn’t Make Sense. Heating your entire home with a central forced air system is often inefficient. Constantly pumping heat through unoccupied rooms wastes valuable energy. With your Valor, you distribute steady, even heat directly where you want it - when you want it.

Studies have shown that effective zone heating can save you up to 30% on home heating costs. Turn down your furnace and heat wisely with your Valor.

No Power No Problem

Valor Gas Fireplaces are fully functional heaters that don’t require electricity (AC) for steady, efficient operation - providing reliable warmth, even during a power failure. Learn more by clicking here.

Radiant Heat

Valor Fireplaces are Known for Producing Radiant Heat. Satisfying human comfort with up to 25% less energy than warm air systems, radiant heat replaces the chill lost to cold windows and walls. Reduce your energy bill and increase your home comfort with Valor radiant heat.
